Harley Quinn, real name “Harleen Frances Quinzel” – a fictional character appearing in comics and films related to the Batman franchise. She is usually depicted in a red and black outfit with a large hammer or baseball bat. Once a psychiatrist, later became Joker’s accomplice.
She first appeared in the Batman animated series. She was portrayed slightly differently in the films Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad, where she was played by Margot Robbie.
Harley Quinn was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm specifically for one of the episodes of Batman: The Animated Series from 1992, titled “Joker’s Favor”. Initially written as a character who was not supposed to appear again. As the process of writing the episode went on, Dini came up with the idea of including a character who would accompany Joker, as Dini himself put it: “I created her in such a way that I was writing a story called ‘Joker’s Favor’ and it was my first Joker story and I wanted it to be good and I wanted Joker to be all the things he is in the better comics, which is funny and scary, and selfish, and I thought maybe giving him a sidekick would bring out some of those personality traits.” Then he thought about giving Joker a henchwoman, inspired by female characters who accompanied villains in the 1960s Batman TV series.
