Green Arrow

Green Arrow is a fictional character (superhero) from the comic book series published by DC Comics. The creators of the character are Mort Weisinger and George Papp.

He first appeared in More Fun Comics vol. 1 #73 (November 1941). The inspiration for the creators was the character of the archer from the movie serial The Green Archer, which was an adaptation of Edgar Wallace’s novel of the same title. Green Arrow is a masked vigilante whose main weapon in the fight against crime is a bow and arrows (his costume was modeled after the stereotypical image of Robin Hood). He operates mainly in his hometown of Star City in the USA.

In many ways, Green Arrow resembles Batman: like the Dark Knight, he has no superhuman powers, he has a teenage sidekick named Speedy (whose real name is Roy Harper), and in everyday life, Oliver Queen is a millionaire playboy, which is also an analogy to Bruce Wayne (Oliver was also portrayed as the mayor of Star City). In the 1970s, writer Dennis O’Neil and artist Neal Adams made him a comic book advocate for social change in the USA. In the comics from 1995-2000, when Oliver Queen was dead, his son Connor Hawke used the Green Arrow alias. The character of Oliver returned thanks to Kevin Smith and to this day holds a prominent place in the pantheon of DC Comics superheroes alongside Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern.

He also appeared in numerous animated series and films, TV series, and video games set in the DC Comics universe. He first appeared in live-action in the television series Smallville, where the character of “Ollie” was played by Justin Hartley. In the television series Arrow, aired on The CW, the hooded vigilante was played by Stephen Amell.
